I was a late starter at tennis. I first picked up a racket at 30, mainly, for social and fitness development. I found I developed quickly into a good club player through being coached and entering local club leagues and competitions. Whilst coaching tennis and playing competitively is difficult, I have managed to captain and play for the Men’s 2nd Team in the Middlesex League and also captain and play for the Men’s team in the National Club League.
Prior to joining Coolhurst, I started my coaching career by assisting my previous club coach to deliver a coaching programme to children and adults. This experience gave me a good grounding in the LTA’s Mini Tennis scheme, which aims to deliver tennis to 5-11 year olds. It also gave me experience of delivering lessons to adults of all abilities from absolute beginners to experienced club players. I attained my DCA coach status through the LTA’s coach licensing scheme in early 2007 and recently (Summer 2009) attained my Performance Coach license. I aim to complete my next coaching qualification this year. Although I have only been at Coolhurst for 2 years, it has afforded me the opportunity to continue and expand my broad range of work with children and adults, to which end I have a number of clients (both Junior and Adult) that have shown great improvement over this short time. I enjoy the challenge that each new client brings and continually look for ways to deliver lessons that match a client’s need.
