Poppy Manze (Southgate) was a worthy runner-up in the Girls U15 competition, and Arjun Shah (Vale Farm) and Craig Empson (Southgate) – pictured below were winner and runner-up in the BU15 plate, while Michael Collins (Southgate) was runner-up in the U13 plate. Alastair Prenn (Queens) reached the semi-finals of the boys Under 11’s main draw; Jonathan Lowry (Southgate) and Robbie Parker (Princes) both reached the U15 main draw quarter finals; Nikhil Shah (Vale Farm) had another excellent tournament to win through to the BU17 semi’s, as did Niamh Greene (Southgate) in the Girls U11s - another great prospect for the future.
Another excellent tournament, organised by Judy Williams (right with U19 boys winner Obaid Jahan Khan) and Tony Cunnew, with a strong contingent of Middlesex players and some excellent squash matches.
Notable victories by our own county juniors were achieved by Gurbhaj Kahlon (British Airways), beating the No. 2 seed Jonathan Fuller in the U19B event and Lee Rossiter (Finchley Manor), beating the 3/4 seed to reach the semi-final in the U13s.
Coolhurst Squash Juniors are making some changes. Beginning on Sunday the 8th of October, our Junior coaching session will move from 14.10-16.10 to the earlier slot of 10.10-12.10. The first hour, as before, will be for beginners/improvers and 11 and under, and the second hour for 12+. The fee remains at £3.00 per person. This is a great opportunity to make sure that Juniors start and improve their squash under the tutelage of Mike Elford, Level two squash coach and internationally ranked player.
Saturday Social Squash for Juniors. This is an opportunity for Juniors to get together for a more relaxed squash session. These sessions will be held on Saturday mornings and will run from 10.10 to 11.30. The fee will be £2.00. The first session will be held on Saturday the 7th October.
Social Sessions will be co-ordinated by parent Stephen Haxby. While Stephen will be contacting parents, there is no need to book for Junior sessions-just turn up and play!
