First team match report
Ealing - January 2006
Ali McGill
Result: Lost 3-1????
Plus's: None
Minus's: His squash, temperament etc
Verdict: Wasn't an easy day for our captain. Became embroiled in an argument over statistics with our Vice Captain about who was more effective at no 1 (how that will come back to bite him), threatened to resign as 1st team captain when the squash committee suggested he was being unhelpful by proactively rearranging venues for our remaining home fixtures, then got d***ed in his squash game not helped by the pro-Ealing marking. Looks like it's all getting a bit too much for young McGill, suggests he heads to the massage parlour on Crouch End Broadway.

Peter Baird
Result: Won 3-1
Plus's: Volleys, low drives from the back
Minus's: Concentration, marking Verdict: Another good day at the office for young Baird maintaining his 100% record. The only blemish to his evening was the gonad-less marking display whilst marking McGill.
Rating: 3/5 (lost a point for marking)
Nick Buckley
Result: Lost 3-2
Plus's: Won 2 games
Minus's: Lost 3 games after being 2 - 0, then 8-1 up in the 5th
Verdict: Oh my goodness, quite a game for the neutral. Some delightful shots from both players in a very entertaining 5 setter. From the home side's point of view it was a case of Coolhurst déjà vu. There was almost a collective groan from the home side when Buckley lost the 3rd game as if we knew what to expect. Buckley - didn't let us down in that respect and proved that the curse of the Coolhurst ticker is still alive.

Richard Gourlay
Result: Won 3-1
Plus's: Didn't argue with the ref
Minus's: Dodgy tactic of thinking that hitting the ball at 800mph was the way forward on a court with a temp of 40 degrees C.
Verdict: Reffed fairly giving players no scope for backchat meant that Tom and Richard could engage in a hacking spectacle, not a sniff of a drop shot for 2 games. Gourlay was lucky in the 1st game winning 10-9 after being 6-1 down, came out for 2nd in a complacent mood thinking Tom was buggered and promptly lost the game 9-4. However, Tom was about to expire and from that moment on there was only going to be one winner. Good win for Gourlay who got quite emotional on Sunday when it was suggested that his squash game was 'dated'. It may be 'dated' but still effective.
Rating: 2/5
Damian Smith
Result: Won 3-0
Plus's: Won without any effort
Minus's: Lost 6 pts
Verdict: Scoreline flatters smith a bit as his opponent was significantly weaker than his team-mates. Smith lumbered about court putting in the minimum required in what was a very lazy display. Note for stats man: There is an error in the scorecard, I won 9-2, 9-0,9-4 not the 9-2,9-2,9-4 that was recorded. Even though I am not concerned about stats I do feel that if stats are to be published then they should be accurate!!!!!
