First team match report

BA - May 2006

Overall

A stunning 3-2 win for the boys from Coolhurst who are now joint top of the league with BA, but have lost fewer games. The league organizers are trawling through the rule book as we speak, no doubt helped on by Captain McGill offering his Wenger like guidance and interpretation of the rules. Regardless of the outcome, a terrific finale to a great season. Well played to all involved

Damian Smith
Result: Lost 3-0
Plus's: None
Minus's: Attitude, shots, everything
Verdict: A shocking display from Smith who can't apologize enough to his teammates. Not sure what was going on inside Smith's head but it wasn't focused on the task in hand.
Rating: Doesn't even qualify for a rating

Richard Gourlay
Result: Won 3-0
Plus's: Not many really - all over too quickly
Minus's: Lost first 5 points
Verdict: Clinical victory for Gourlay who had been subjected to rumours about his team place right up until the last minute. Dispatched his opponent with ruthless efficiency, clearly demonstrating his worth to Captain McGill and his disgust in the suggestions last week that he may have cost us the league with an ill-timed bout of the sh**s.
Rating: 3/5

Nick Buckley
Result: Won 3-0
Plus's: Length, movement, retrieval
Minus's: Concentration
Verdict: Clive, Nick's opponent is a very nice player but was made to look extremely ordinary by young Buckley who effortlessly breezed around court, moving his opponent from corner to corner.  Surely Nick has to be club champ favourite now and will obviously be spurred on by the 1st prize of Club Membership for a year given his student grant
Rating: 4/5

Ally McGill
Result: Won 3-2
Plus's: Pulled something very big out, just when the match and league victory seemed to have slipped away. Back wall boasts.
Minus's: Attitude, hold and disguise, forehand, backhand, volley, drops, boasts
Verdict: Managed to throw dummy, toys and nappy out of the pram before demolishing his opponent 0 & 0 in 4th and 5th games. At one point, suggested he wasn't going to play any more despite the match depending on a positive result. Was playing Scooperman. Impeccably marked by Gourlay.
Rating: -1/5

Neil Rossin
Result: Lost 2-3
Plus's: Worked hard. Match didn't last more than 45 minutes
Minus's: Didn't work his opponent into the ground. Too many opportunities for opponent to attack
Verdict: Tried to brush over a bad loss by suggesting his match was a dead rubber. Actually could be the title decider depending on interpretation of the rule book. Disappointing end to the season which to date had produced some good results for the boy from Cambridge.
Rating: 1/5
