Women’s Squash Drop-In

After a very successful start we will be continuing with the Women’s Drop in Sessions run on a Wednesday and a Sunday here at Coolhurst:

With funding from Sportivate/London Sport and support by Middlesex Squash
& Racketball Association, Coolhurst Squash Club hosted 3 x 6 weeks of 1
hour squash sessions for women.  The response to these sessions were
overwhelming and exceeded expectations with over 48 participants
registering.

The sessions were coached and facilitated by Lucas Cannistraci, Ivy
Dieltens, Vickie Prow and Wendy Levin and the groups were of a mixed
standard of beginners and intermediate players.  What as important to the
ladies involved was they were there because they had other ladies to play
with as well as the opportunity to learn new techniques and improve their
fitness.

The players have been so enthusiastic and have had such fun, that the
sessions will continue at Coolhurst every Wednesday and Sunday.

Middlesex Boys U13s Team Runners Up at Inter County Finals

middx-black-300Middlesex Boys U13s Team Runners Up at Inter County Finals

After 2 rounds and no defeats the Middlesex U13 Boys team went into the inter county
finals with high hopes, but also the knowledge that there were some very strong
teams in the last 4.  On Saturday, in their semi-final match, they played
Hampshire.  The games were all tight, but victories for Ben, Joe and Eliot
saw the team through.  James had his first ever game at this level and
started to find his feet.  Hadi lost in a close match to the England #5.

On the Sunday was the final, and the Cumbria team was very strong, with the top 2 being #2 and #12 respectively in the country.  James went on and won his first game, which was a great start for the team.  At the same time Eliot was playing the England #26 on the next court in a long game.  Eliot had a chance to win the game, but a
controversial call at 11-10 in the fifth when the point had been won meant we
saw the match move on, and Eliot lost out, a brilliant game to watch.  At the same time, Joe was despatching with the Cumbria number 4 on the court next door 3-0.  What could have meant a 3-0 straight victory was now 2-1 to Middlesex, with the 2 strongest players to play. Hadi had to play the England #2, and gave a good fight but he was just too strong.  This meant it was now 2-2 with Ben, the current England #10 to play the Cumbria #2, and England #12.  This was a great game, but Ben took his time to get
going.  He went 2-0 down, but then won a game but lost 3-1.

The boys played really well in all the stages, and showed great team spirit throughout.

The team consisted of Hadi Khan (Cumberland), Ben Harrison (Coolhurst), Eliot Heywood (Coolhurst), Joseph Sochor-Grethe (Finchley Manor) and James Carman (Southgate) including preliminary round player Matthew Wood (Hurlingam), and Head Junior County Coach Daniel Enaholo.
