ANOTHER SUCCESS - WINTER MIXED TENNIS *Another success - Winter Mixed Tennis *

Mixed doubles at Coolhurst is continuing its successful revival with
another storming Winter season.
In the Middlesex Vets leagues, Coolhurst 1 won the Top Division title and
the 2nd team managed 3rd place in a tricky Division 3.
In the floodlit league, the 2nd Mixed Team won promotion for the 2nd year
running from Division 4 to Divison 3 while the 1st team were just pipped
for victory in the top division. The new 3rd team came third in Division 5
failing to get promotion by just one point.
Over 50 players participated including coaches Harvey Becker and Lucy Dean
and while some of the games were admittedly a little trying (wet courts and
sleet coming down in one), most were competitive and fun with little of the
angst that seems to affect at least some of the summer single sex matches.
Whether it is the women or the men who ensure their tennis partners behave
on court and off is unclear but, as Wimbledon Champion Wilfred Baddeley
once put it, ‘a game in which two gentlemen are partnered by two good
ladies is almost as enjoyable and almost as difficult to play well as a
men’s singles’ although admittedly he did not turn up to play in Hadeley
Wood on a freezing cold winter night in January.

Mixed Veterans' Tennis Mixed veterans' tennis has usually been a winter activity in Middlesex, for some reason, over the last few years but this summer, the county did a trial for a summer league. Coolhurst entered one mixed team and we won the top Division East with some ease.......(read more)
