Allam British Open Masters
The (slightly older) Masters come to Coolhurst!
Celebrating the completion of our four new glass-backed squash courts, the Allam British Open Masters tournament takes place for the first time at Coolhurst over the coming weekend (Saturday May 12 to Wednesday May 16). Don’t miss the opportunity to see top-class national and international competitive squash, with our home-grown players including Jago Nardelli, Damian Smith and Paul Harris battling for a share of the honours. For more details and schedules, see the British Open Masters draws here. Entrance is free.
Amazing New Squash Courts
With the completion of our four new glass-backed squash courts in March, Coolhurst now offers our squash members a total of seven courts - five glass-backed - with a choice of playing surfaces and conditions. Our Number 1 court has a banked viewing gallery with a capacity of up to 150 spectators for showpiece matches, and all other courts have their own viewing galleries. A unique feature of the new courts is the ability to configure them to play singles or doubles squash when required, as shown here. New members are always welcome - visit the How to Join section of our website or come along to a taster session at one of our weekly clubnight evenings (Sundays from 6.50 pm, Wednesdays from 7.50 pm). Any queries to Peter Hilton on 07976884138.

Grand opening of new squash courts
The Grand Opening on Saturday March 24th was an outstanding success. The celebrations started with exhibition matches from world class players, music from the Yorkshire Brass Band, fine speeches from those who led the project, party food supplied by a Michelin starred chef, Robert Reid, and dozens of VIPs buzzing around the champagne tent. The club was packed with hundreds of members on the sunniest day of the year. Pictured are Peter Nicol MBE in green, the former World No1, Lynne Featherstone MP, Penny Chalmers, club chair and junior members Ben Harrison and Ben Knight.
With our four new glass-backed courts, Coolhurst will be a supporting venue for the 2012 Allam British Open tournament in April and will host the Allam British Masters Open tournament in May. The Club will play a key role in supporting the future elite player development of some of the UK's finest squash players.

Hi-tech Gym now open
The new Coolhurst Gym was formally opened last Saturday (24 March). The Coolhurst Gym was funded by the Mayor of London’s Facilities Fund, with a matching donation from Nuthurst Proprietary Ltd, who own Coolhurst’s freehold.
State of the art equipment worth nearly £50,000 has been provided by Cybex, who also equip the gyms at the Laboratory and at Queens Club. The Gym is managed by Louise Hilton, helped by Ram Da Silva, a personal fitness trainer. Come and have a look and they will happily show you around.
Gym membership is excellent value at £160 per year for Coolhurst playing members and £210 for non-members. Subscription includes a full induction and professional support to get you going. For more information, contact Louise Hilton on 07801 246067 or e-mail her at gymandstudio @coolhurst.co.uk.
Mixed Doubles Team winners.
It was another succesful season for the Coolhurst tennis mixed teams in the winter floodlit league. The first team is now back where it belongs: in Division 1. In its first season there, it held its own with good victories against Potters Bar, Mydlleton and Vicars Moor. In its first season the new Second Team galloped away with Division 5 winning all seven matches and just conceeding one set for a record-breaking total of 110 points. 'Quite amazing' said captain David Berry. 'We used 16 different players altogether and I kept thinking we must lose a few sets even if we were easily the strongest team. But everybody won their matches even on the nights when it started snowing. Invidious to single out anybody but Sarah Beardwell deserves a mention as she played in five matches altogether, even turning out when the courts were as slippery as a suburban fox. And of course Sarah Luther and Ray Vernon who in the one match they played won 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.6-0, the first time I can recall any Coolhurst pair having a clean sheet in a match"

Squash 1st team triumphs again
Many congratulations to our men's 1st team and captain Jago Nardelli on winning the Middlesex league, repeating our victory of 2010. The season ended with a flourish - a fine win 5-0 against West Herts. The team was Anthony Graham, Tim Vale, Phil Nightingale, Jago Nardelli and Jack Jago. Our win gives us entry to the National Club Championship, starting in September.
Our other men's teams also did well in Middlesex divisions 2,3 & 4.
Thank you to everyone for your support this season. The team looks forward to seeing you all again in the autumn.
